A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

I was browsing a garage sale in my neighborhood and I stumbled upon a curious CD. I read it onto my PC and what came out was an executable for what seems to be a Virtual Machine. When I booted it I was greeted by SpinOS

I did a lot of digging and I just could not find anything on this operating system for the life of me. I poked around in the VM and it doesn't seem to do much. Looking at the VM's file system, there does seem to be some sort of runnable executable in the OS but I haven't been able to run it on my system at least.

If anyone out there could help me out, I've uploaded the VM executable to this site for folks to help me test and understand this OS. There's something here... something ominous... but I couldn't tell you what.

Can you help me crack this VM?

HOW TO PLAY:

The main menu is a sort of console that you can type commands into. You can type "HELP" in to get a list of all(?) valid commands. You only need to know "CONTROLS" to see the game's controls and "PLAY" to play the game.

When the game boots you will be greeted by a main game window and 6 sub windows. The main game is essentially frogger, you must prevent the player character from going offscreen or being run over by a vehicle. In the meanwhile various creatures (of the night) will attack you via the 6 sub windows.

  • One must be kept off any screen under all circumstances
  • One must be shaken off
  • One requires you to type a sequence of keys to remove
  • One must be assembled correctly

Only the top two are capable of ending your run. The latter two exist primarily to block your vision. Do with this information what you will.

How long can you survive?

This is a proof of concept and may see further development to be feature some other core mechanisms I wanted to integrate during the jam.
